Now Hidden page

4 minute read

Congrats! You found one of the hidden pages.

Well, you weren't supposed to be here, but welcome anyways.

This page is mostly more about my rants rather than what I’m doing now, so I hope you won’t be disappointed.

Well, I’ve finished my degree and am now looking for a job in the industry. Gotta say, AI has been phenomenal as it actively helped me in my freelance job and also made it way easier for me to learn and understand concepts. But that same thing is creating an issue for an entry-level job, which I’m trying to get.

Almost all the applications are met with “Unfortunately”, so I thought to myself: if I do projects and get certifications, will my chances improve somewhat?

Turns out, as of when I'm writing this, the outcome is still "Not really".

Well, I do think I gotta try a bit harder, so yeah, I’m going to be doing even more projects and getting even more certificates.

Well, I also gotta make sure I don’t forget about LeetCode, as it’s still asked in quite a lot of places. Although I guess system design is the new big thing, so I’m more focused on it, as AI is already getting good at rapid prototyping the code, so design choice and implementation will have more weight.

Well, currently I’m still applying, still learning, and still building, so let’s hope that by the time you visit this page, I’ll already be at a job.

One thing I’ve noticed is that there’s a pretty big difference between building something because you want to and building something because you think it’ll look good on your resume.

Sometimes I just want to build something ridiculous because it sounds fun, but then I remember that I should probably be working on something more useful. The struggle is real.

Hell, even trying to find something good to build is getting harder, as everything I seem to think of already exists. Previously, the barrier was more on the implementation side, but I guess now it’s heavily on the idea side, as AI is growing rapidly.

Talking about AI, it’s insane how good it is today.

Like, a few years back, I’d just use it for auto-suggestions, which felt revolutionary at the time, as the time it took me to write something was drastically reduced. Then I leaned more into prompting as AI got better and better, and by now, I think AI writes almost all the code, as it has gotten just that good.

This is a really conflicting feeling, as on one hand, I’m happy I’m doing more with less time, but on the other hand, it’s crazy how good it is, and I feel like the need for developers is probably slashed by 1/10th or even more due to this.

Looking back, I honestly thought things would be a little different by now. I had this idea that finishing my degree would be the big milestone, after which things would gradually fall into place.

Well, turns out finishing your degree is just another checkpoint, and the actual grind continues.

In fact, I think most of my grind happened right as I was finishing my degree and after it. (Sorry, young me, I should’ve been more careful early on.)

Well, no use crying over spilt milk. (Still crying internally.)

Well, unrelated things, but I built this portfolio because the last one felt a bit wrong and misleading, and the design wasn’t the best.

You can still check it out here:

Keep in mind that this auto redirects, so you gotta click the not redirect button to view this.

Now, more about now and about other things.

A lot of my inspiration always comes from my friends’ portfolio site (I hope he doesn’t mind, as I’m always stealing), so help him out by checking his portfolio site:

(Sorry for always stealing, bro.)

Well, I think that’s about my rant, and I’m sorry that you’re disappointed you weren’t met with what I’m doing now, but instead with my rant.

If you’ve actually read this far, I’m genuinely surprised. I wasn’t raelly expecting anyone to spend this much time reading my random rants. Well since you’re here, I guess I’ll leave you with this: I have absolutely no idea where I’ll be a year from now, but hopefully things will have worked out by then.

Peace!
